Fortune magazine outlines a scenario for an upward shift in housing

A recent article in Fortune magazine has Realtors smiling and sellers hopeful. The title, "Real Estate: Its time to buy again" says it all. The nation's housing market may have taken a huge hit in recent years, but this article outlines the way a scenario is falling into place that will allow the housing market to shift upward.

New construction has steeply declined in many areas of the country. According to the author of the Fortune article, Shawn Tully, the lack of building and steep decline in home prices has led many to renting. However, rentals are becoming expensive and are in short supply. The new affordability of homes will hopefully lure people away from rentals, and into the patiently waiting rooms of a new home.

Of course this scenario cannot play out unless other economic factors follow suit. In order for housing to rebound, the economy, job creation and consumer confidence will have to improve. In recent months, statistics have shown that our economy is expanding and beginning a recovery process. We will have to wait and see how things work out, but no one sector of the economy will fully prosper without others doing the same. It's like peanut butter without jelly or Tom without Jerry!

Tully also mentioned that nondistressed markets, areas of the country where the low spike in home prices was not as sharp, should see construction and prices rise easier and quicker. The Mt. Juliet market seems to be an area where this is poised to happen. New construction here in the Mt. Juliet, Tennessee area has not come to a complete halt like it has in other states.

If Buyers present themselves in the numbers this article suggests, housing will be forced to rebound. So, a Realtor's best advice to their sellers is to get their home in ship shape. Have it show to the best of its ability in order for it to compete with new construction. Also, figure out the best attributes of your neighborhood and use that to market your home. Then sit back and enjoy some good news for a change!

Opry Mills will be back!

During a news conference, representatives from Opry Mills revealed that the mall will be set to reopen in the Spring of 2012. The popular Nashville shopping center has been closed since the May 2010 flood, with only Bass Pro Shops opening so far.

There have been lots of rumors about which retailers will return once the mall is reopened. Representatives have commented that some new stores will be added including Calvin Klein outlet, Coach, Under Armour and White House Black Market.

For people in the Mt. Juliet community, the reopening of Opry Mills will be a welcome sight, thanks to the proximity of the location and the fact that Opry Mills offers different stores from what is currently found in the Providence Marketplace.

    Ava's Run For A Reason

Mt. Juliet is a community full of heart. In the past year Mt. Juliet has lost two young girls (Savannah Swandal from cancer and Ava Bright from complications after tonsil surgery), causing our community to unite and try to lift up the families of these girls. Seas of bright green ribbons covered houses, cars and mailboxes; and people everywhere wore lime green. Everyone did this in the hopes that Savannah's family would feel supported.

This Saturday, April 2nd, another Mt. Juliet family will honor the memory of their daughter, Avalyn Shaye Bright, with Ava's Run for a Reason at Charlie Daniel's Park. The Bright family founded the Avalyn Shaye Foundation in order to complete a number of things they thought would bring joy to the children in Mt. Juliet as well as families facing the illness of a child and stays in Pediatric Intensive Care. Ava's Run for a Reason will raise funds to build a splash pad in Mt. Juliet for children to enjoy and aid the Foundation in their other efforts like providing preschool scholarships.

We are excited to be sponsors of this event, and proud to be part of such a caring, supportive community. Come out and see us and enjoy some fresh air and exercise for a good cause.
